Can't run scan for updates

B

billyg

Last week my homepage (yahoo) was hijacked to
jksearch.biz and I could not change it back. I also had
a hard time opening web pages I had easily gone to before
(some, not all), and then some pages would partially load
but some ads or icons would be "X". I took it in for
repair, and they got some fixed, but not all. They
disabled the new homepage, but it still made me reload
yahoo whenever I logged on. After repeatedly changing
the homepage to yahoo and having it be reswitched to
jksearch, it finally seems to have stuck to yahoo.

However, I still have a hard time loading some web pages
(that easily loaded before). I decided to go to
Microsoft.com for updates, but when I scan for updates I
keep getting a message that I need to update my time
first before I scan. I have twice updated teh time on
the internet, but I still can't run the scan.

I also tried to run an update for Internet Explorer 6.0
(which I have), but when I download it and open it, it
tells me that, "this update requires Internet Explorer
6.0 to be installed", but I am already using IE 6.0 to
get to microsoft.com.

ANY help, greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

when I scan for updates I keep getting a message that I need to
update my time first before I scan.

Actually it's not the "time" per se which is usually the problem;
it's the date. E.g. make sure that the year is correct.

That is only the most common reason for the error that you are seeing;
that's why the message is worded that way. To see other reasons
try using the Windows Update Troubleshooter

Note: if you are just searching for ideas it may help to make a copy
of the page and search it in a Notepad window. E.g. press Ctrl-a, Ctrl-c
then open a new Notepad window, paste it in and use Notepad's Find.
Try searching for 0x800c0008

Also use Google Groups to search the Windows Update newsgroup.

time insubject:0x800c0008 author:MSFT OR MVP group:microsoft.*.windowsupdate

may get you started.

Once you get your Windows Update problem sorted out
I suspect that you won't be concerned about the symptom
you got from your attempted workaround.

Good luck
