Internet Explorer Won't Open Certain Websites/pages

I've had problems with internet explorer 6.0 opening webpages all day. I
finally got it to open select pages by turning off my firewall. Everything
worked fine until I tried logging into my email accounts on places like
yahoo, msn, my school's webpage, etc. Additionally, any website that
requires you to log in before going past the first page won't open. I've
tried messing with my security and privacy settings, but I haven't been
successful. Any ideas?

Also, I can't leave my firewall off forever, so any ideas on how I can get
internet explorer to work without turning it off? Yesterday, things were
working fine, but then, suddenly, pages quit loading. It was late, so I went
to bed. This morning, pages only opened 1 out of 10 times. Links within
homepages didn't work, though. Thanks.
