Can't run Chkdsk on xp

My laptop is having slow boot time and when it boots up it
seems like something is eating up the cpu. I can't do
anything. Every keystroke takes about 30sec to respond. I
tried to run chkdsk on the recovery console but it just
keep starting over after about 60%into it. Anyone know
what might be the problem? Compaq presario 700 runing xp
pro.

Hey XCV4,

Hwo much RAM do you have on that system and what is the
amount of Virtual Memory being used (size of the paging
file). I suspect a lot of swapping is going on!
