Can't retreive data from 2nd HD- reinstalled WinXP on HD1

I have two hard drives HD#1 80GB and HD#2 160 GB. I had
to reinstall Windows XP Pro on a partition on HD#1 which
was the original operating system partition. Now that its
done HD #2 shows up in Disk Management as 153 GB of
Unformated space. Is there any way to access the data on
HD#2. HD#2 was set up as storage and has no operating
system install. I fear that I destroyed the partition
information Is there anyway to retreive the data using
Windows or third party software?

What was the second disk - Basic?

Yes second disk is basic it had/has data on it already.
