Can't resolve hostnames

P

Patrick

Hello,

I maintain a small 25 workstation Windows 2000 network. Workstations
run Win 98, Win 2K and XP Pro. Last week one of my workstations for
some reason decided not to find hostnames anymore (except in IE where
it works fine). But I can't ping anything (www.licatholic.org,
www.yahoo.com etc.) that I am able to ping from the other
workstations. The biggest drawback is that when outlook tries to pull
e-mail off our pop server it can't find the server and obviously does
not work. I can ping IP addresses with no problem at all. I also
have a brand new XP pro machine with the same problem. We have a
business DSL from Verizon and share the connection through an ISA
server.

Thanks in advanced if you can help.

regards,

Patrick

Hello,

Where are the workstations pointing to for DNS? If they point to an
internal DNS server then you need to make sure the DNS server has a
forwarder configured to point to a valid external DNS server. If they
point to an external DNS server are you able to ping that server?
