Assigning a hostname for WInXP?

Hi,

I have Windows XP (SP 3) running on a VirtualBox on an Ubuntu Linux
11.04 host. I would like to assign a hostname to my WinXP box such
that I'm always able to contact (e.g. ping) it from the Linux host.
Because the IP of the WinXP machine changes whenever it is rebooted, I
can't assign an entry in the Linux /etc/hosts file. Interested in
your suggestions for assigning a name to the WinXP machine.

Thanks, - Dave

Why not just keep it simple and call it "VM-WinXP".

Ok, where do I do that? Giving my computer a computer name of "VM-
WinXP" does not allow me to execute "ping VM-WinXP" from the Linux
host. - Dave

Try enabling 'bridged mode' in your vm network settings.
