Can't reinstall IE6

Guest

I'm having trouble with Internet Explorer 6. When I try to open it, a McAfee
alert says "the trojan, Downloader-VA, has been removed," and then it doesn't
open. I ran VirusScan and there weren't any viruses. I tried to reinstall
it by downloading IE6 from microsoft's website, but when I try to install it,
it says, "Setup has detected a newer version of Interent Explorer already
installed on this system. Setup cannot continue." So I go to Control Panel
to uninstall IE6, and it's not there! All the other programs except IE6 are
there. How can I reinstall it? Should I just go in to Program Files and
delete it, or would that screw up my system even more?

Hi Chris,

Run this combo:

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot and HijackThis:

Note: Update the first two programs, once installed, before running.

Once done, if all isn't well:

Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE (Line 114)

Then re-install IE - Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"

Do these things work if SP2 has been applied? AFAIK the SP2 version
of IE/OE is not available as a stand-alone download.
