can't record to cd

XP will longer record to cd. It will read both data and music cd's. I have
tried 3 different blank cd's so that is not the problem. It wont record with
either XP's built in programme or with Drag and Drop. It seems to go through
all the motions as normal but then there is never anything recorded on the
cd. Can anyone please help. Thanks.
 
Do you have a CD burner or is it just a CD-Rom? If it is a burner, did you
record before? You can format a CD-R and CD-RWs (called packet writing),
using either Nero or Roxio's Easy CD Creator. Then you can drag&drop to
your hearts content.
 
Yes it's a CD burner, part of a Toshiba laptop. It's been burning CD's
happily for 2 years with no problems until now. Drag and Drop is a CD
burning software programme similar to Nero, Easy CD etc.
