Can't record a Macro

My problem is that I can not record a macro with Excel 2002. Here are
the steps I take and what happens. I click on Tools, Macro, Record
Macro. I then select Personal Macro Workbook. Where the dialog box
asks that I incert a lower case letter that will bring up the macro
when I hit CTRL + the letter, I get the following message. "Personal
Macro Workbook in the Startup Folder must stay open for recording". I
then click on OK and I get the message "Microsoft Excel Unable to
Record".

I will appreciate any help I can get.

There was just another poster who said that his problem that the personal.xl*
file was marked as Disabled.

Try opening excel and then
Help|about MS Excel|
Click on the Disabled Items Button

and see if your personal.xl* file is listed.

If it is, try enabling it. If you can't enable it successfully--next time you
start excel, it gets marked disabled again, you may have to delete you
personal.xl* file and reload it from your backup.

(and enable it one more time)
