Hi there, I'm a UK newbie so please bear with me.... I have Vista home
premium, ad have been trying to set up email thru Windows mail, using an
email address provided by my broadband supplier. I've managed to set it up so
that emails can be sent, via windows email, using the new address, tho none
can be recieved, from ANY address. I'm sure I've set up the account correctly
(incoming server = pop.sky.com - not working, outgoing = smtp.sky.com - IS
working. Also have incoming mail as a POP3 server). It is also set up as the
default account.
ANY help appreciated PLEASE!!
Thanks,
Mike

Please copy and paste the error message you receive. Sounds to me like your
most likely suspect is the incoming port is wrong.

Among other things, the server names are different than what you are using.
You may want to ring them up and ask which directions you are supposed to use.

I also can't get incoming mail since swapping from XP to Vista but can send.
Message comes up as mail.abigailministries.org POP3 Server response Err

Thanks

Your error message is paraphrased. Next time, right-click on it, copy,
then paste it into a reply here. Small details get lost when paraphrasing.

"Invalid command" means your mail client sent a command to the
server that it did not understand. Go to Tools, Accounts, select the
abigailministries.org account, Properties, Servers. Make sure that
the option "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is unchecked.

If that is not the issue, let us know which antivirus you are running.

Thanks Gary

I agree with Robert's comment. When there is a login failure, and
you are sure the username and password are correct, it means that
something has corrupted your password store. That 'something' is
likely to be your antivirus. Windows Mail is not compatible with
most McAfee and Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

If after doing the above, the problem is not resolved, delete the
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account

I have the same problem, unistalled Norton, reset Windows Mail - still can't
receive mail (sends mail OK).

My best bet is to get rid of Vista, second best is try to install
Thunderbird.

"scanning" (don't remember exactly) and below that:
1. 23427
2. 2345

Thanks for including the log file as well as the error message.
You say you reset Mail. How was that done?
It is likely that Norton corrupted that mail account, so if you haven't
already done so, delete that account, restart Windows Mail, then
recreate the account.
Also, unless you are sure that Norton uninstalled cleanly and
completely, it often helps to get the last remnants out by using
their removal tool:

800CCC19 is a timeout error. On the advanced properties of the account move
the timeout slider a couple notches to the right.

Glad to have helped.
