I cannot send out emails with my new account

Karl

Hello. I have worked for hours trying to set up an email account through
Windows Mail. I have an email address through at&t. I contacted at&t. They
gave me the incoming (pop.att.yahoo.com) and outgoing (smtp.att.yahoo.com)
email servers. They also told me that the outgoing server port # is 465, and
the incoming server port # is 995. I've created an account with these
specifications. But Windows Mail cannot send them out for some reason.

Something else. All the emails that I've tried to send are in my "outbox."
When I try to send them, the message reads "One or more messages in your
Outbox do not have a valid account specified. Would you like to use your
default account to send these messages?"

Move all messages from the Outbox to your Drafts folder.

Try sending a test message to yourself, Did it send? Did you receive it.

If no to either of the above then select the error message/s and copy-paste
them to your reply.

Move the messages from drafts one by one and try to send, again post any
error messages back here.

If any fail to send, move it back to drafts and try the others one at a
time.

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

You have to mark "authentication" for outgoing. You can do that in the area
you set up the SMTP server. Just click the box and it should work. I just
had this same problem and it required authentication box to be checked.

I have the same problem. It only happens when I click on the "page" button
and try to forward a page using Windows mail. I have no problem when logged
into hotmail or yahoo.
This is the error message I get

The host 'gmail' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'gmail', Server: 'gmail', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I have 41 emails stuck in there!

In regards to the above problem. When I set up my windows mail, what
server
should I use to send and recieve my mail? I used to use hotmail when I had
Windows ME but when I get the new computer it has windows and I have had a
problem since then. I guess I just need to know what to enter when it asks
about setting up a new account.

You already have links to set up gmail properly.

WM will not let you set up any HTTP (hotmail) type account.

Do the following to trick it.

Here is the trick needed, to set up the Hotmail, Live etc account in WM.

Start with a new account setup and use (e-mail address removed)
Setup the account with the correct server, port and SSL settings, (below),
save
it, ignore errors, then go back and enter the correct email address
and (e-mail address removed) or msn.com or live.com

Try the following settings for Hotmail or Live accounts?

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example (e-mail address removed)
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows
Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

Google mail has extensive help on this topic. Log into the gmail account
and you will find all the help you need to set it up with 3rd party clients.

The settings aren't optional and can't be changed at whim. Enter them
exactly.

"POP3" is not a valid mail server name. You get the correct server names
from your mail service provider. Who provides your email service? Or to
ask that question another way, what is the part of your email address after
the @ symbol?
Your mail provider will typically have a web page that shows how to
set up an email program. If you need more help, tell us the name of
your email service provider. If you currently don't have an email address,
we can help with that also.
