can't receive or send email

I am new to Vista and windows mail. I have set up the mail to the best of my
knowledge but keep receiving the error:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'Home', Server: 'pophm.sympatico.ca', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
It works on my other computer which has MS Outlook Express - any assistance
is appreciated. Thank you.

Which antivirus program are you running?
Some of them are not compatible with Windows Mail.

I'm using Norton Anti-Virus version 10.1.0.26 that came with the computer. I
have tried turning it off and retrieving mail but that didn't work either.

Most versions of the Norton antivirus program cause assorted problems in
Windows Mail, although seldom immediately, and turning off the Norton
program seldom helps. You have to uninstall the Norton program instead.
You then often need to run this cleanup program to take care of what the
uninstall left behind:

If you have the Google Toolbar installed, it's a good idea to uninstall
that program too.

You may even have to remove your email account under Windows Mail,
then restart Windows Mail and add the account again. See here to make
sure you add it correctly:

These instructions were written for Outlook Express but should also work
under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus program
that doesn't cause problems in Windows Mail. Most versions of the
McAfee antivirus program and a recent version of the Trend antivirus
program are not good choices, since they cause such problems.
I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install
that tells it to leave out the part that scans email.
