Can't rec e-mail but can send

Outlook fails to launch and fails to retrieve email from POP server:

Outlook goes to rec e-mail from Yahoo, sends OK but does not proceed past
attempting to rec mail. I have to go out of outlook, and re-launch it in
order for it to work.

Also, when I close Outlook by pressing exit from file menu, it remains in
RAM. In order to retrieve e-mail, I must force OUTLOOK out of memory by
bring up cntrl-alt-del and ending process in RAM list. Then when I go back
and lauch Outlook it works perfectly the first time. If I try and rec after
that time, it will not go past 50% rec indication on the progress window.

How do I fix this? What is going on? Wound appreciate any help I can get.
Thank you.

You have some add-in interfering with the normal Outlook operation. See if
this helps:

How can I determine if and what add-ins may be causing this? Also I have
Zone-Alert anti-viral software that may be interfering but do not know what
settings to make so that it can not interfer. I was using it before and
never had this problem.

Look in Outlook's Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Options>COM Add-Ins and
Add-in Manager. Disable anything you see. Enable them one at a time until
Outlook doesn't close properly. The one you just enabled will be the
culprit.

You'll have to read the documentation that came with Zone Alarm for that.

1. I have completely shut dow the Zone Alarm anti-viral and the anti-spam
program. There is no add-in that is enabled in Outlook 2003. After using
the utility that forces Outlook to shut down and restart, I found out that
every time it goes through that operation, it allows Outlook to remain in RAM
and therefore after 6 times of this, Outlook is in memory 6 times according
to the Task Manager.

2. Any other suggestions? This all seemed to happen after I unsucessfully
tried to install Service Pack 2 into this computer. I got an error message
and it supposedly restored the system to the original condition. Nothinh
else seems to be a problem.

Then you still have something interfering.

Try starting Outlook in safe mode with the /safe command line switch. See
if it stops OK then.
