Can't read CD-R

A friend sent me a CD created on his computer and my CD drive doesn't
recognize any files on it. Using isobuster, I was able to make copies of all
the files onto my hard drive. I then burned them on a CD-R using Nero 6.0 -
everything ran fine. Now the same thing happens - my CD drive doesn't see any
of the files.

Further to this problem - I rebooted my computer with the faulty CD-R in the
drive and the cd was readable. I removed the cd, ran Windows Explorer,
clicked on the drive and after inserting the cd after the "insert cd"
message, I couldn't see any of the files. The drive did not recognize that a
cd was in it. Anyone have a suggestion as to what's going on here?

Further info on this -
Since this problem started recently, I have gone back over the s/w I've
installed in the last few weeks. When I un-installed Nero 6.0, the problem
went away.

Further still - I installed the latest update from Nero (ver 6.6.0.8) and the
problem has gone away (I think). Anyone who is having difficulty with
accessing cds on their drives should make sure to look at recently installed
CD/DVD writing s/w. This error would have been prevented if I'd been thorough
enough to make sure I had the most recent version, but still....
