Can't properly capture DV

Hi

Plugged my Canon DV into my new pc last night in my first attempt to capture
video.

Everything was recognised, Movie Maker rewound the tape, started recording,
and the size of the file looked like it was increasing. But the image
recorded on the screen looks scrambled, and the file would not play in Media
Player (or in Movie Maker)

Any ideas

I'm using a Canon MV20 if that is of any significance, and SP2 for XP
