Can't print or save

My print and save options are 'greyed out'. The only way I can save a
document is to click on the close button (the x in the corner) and a dialogue
box will open asking me if I want to save. To print I have to right-click on
the closed file and select print....I can't print the document when it's
open. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
