Can't play video files

Hi, wondering if anyone can give me some advice, I can't seem to play any video file that I have downloaded. I installed divx, no luck then found that the file was xvid so i installed that, the video worked but when i went back to watch it its not working, I have sound but no picture. I tried uninstallin and reinstalling but no luck. Its driving me crazy, oh I have tried Media player real player and VLn but there are all the same. Help please!!!

Does it not play in Windows Media Player?

Were did you download it from?

Maybe if you downloaded a video converter, and converted the files to .wmv or something

its avi, I downloaded Divx again and for some strange reason I managed to watch it, so fingers croosed ill be able to watch lost!!!

Cancel the last post just went to watch lost and its not working again, I can't figure this out. sound with no screen

Is this a legitimate "copy" or a download ??

"download" torrent, whats really annoying me is how that it was working, and its not like I restarted my computer or anything,arghhhhhhhhhhhh
