Can't play online tv show - Windows Media Player error

I am trying to watch a tv programme on a website. It seems to load ok, but
when I press play, it immediately stops again, with no picture. When I check
the error details, it comes up with:

"80040241: Cannot perform the requested action
Windows Media Player cannot perform the requested action. You might
encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

You tried to play a .dvr-ms file (such as a file created by the Personal
Video Recorder (PVR) in Windows XP Media Center Edition), and your computer
is not configured to play this type of file.
To resolve the problem, see the Microsoft Download Center.

You tried to play a file type that is not supported by Windows Media Player.
For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media
Player, see Supported file types."

I have checked the file extension and it is .asx, which is listed under
supported file types.

I tried to download the update from the Microsoft Download Center, but when
I do, I get an error message saying that it only applies to Windows Service
Pack 1 and I have Windows Service Pack 2.

Does anyone know if there is another update I can download to resolve this
issue? (I have searched in vain for one!) Is there another way I could
watch this tv programme?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have Windows Media Player
version 10, which i have just updated to, however I was encountering the same
error using Windows Media Player 9.

Thanks!

Open windows media player and click on tools and then options and then file
types. Check and see if windows media file (asf) is checked. If is is
checked but looks gray, uncheck and then recheck it. Close out and then try
to play your file.
