can't open windows mail attachements -- but I could before

Windows word attachments will not open unless I already have word running. If
I don't, I get the dialogue box, but nothing happens. This is new, as I could
open them easily before. The only eventy which might be relevant is a power
outage and a disorderly shutdown of my computer. Any Ideas?

Which probably means you need to run both Office Diagnostics & a win repair
 
Try clearing your Temporary Internet Files in IE. (Delete files).
