Can't open some ZIP files?

Kenny

Have a number of ZIP files, all with a normal .zip extension. Some will
open, some won't.
I checked the Properties of the ones I can and can't open.
The ones I can show on the Archive tab:
Version to extract: 2.0
Host OS: Windows
The ones I can't open show:
Version to extract 2.1
Host OS: DOS
I'm using WinRar, XP and NTFS, are they likely to open on a Win98 machine
with WinRar or
WinZip on it.

This would appear to be an issue with WinRAR, not with Windows XP, as the information you're describing doesn't exist in XP's standard properties sheet. You may want to ensure that you have the latest version of WinRAR.

Thanks for the reply, have downloaded the trial version of WinZip 9 and
they're opening OK. It was an older version of WinRar I had been using.

Yes, the latest version of WinZip includes a new compression algorith that
when used puts the 2.1 version info in the header portion of the zip file.
I don't know if WinRar supports this compression method yet or not.
