Can't open some JPGs in Shared Docs

I have a Canon Powershot and have been storing photos on my recent Dell
machine at home.

Sometimes I end up with photos that I can't open, copy, modify permissions,
etc. These seem to be mostly portrait shots (as opposed to landscape).

I need a way of tracking down the problem (something about SharedDocs,
Windows disk cache, hard disk problem, Canon SW) so fix it and some way of
recovering the affected photos.

The vast majority of photos are fine, but once I lose access, it doesn't
come back.

A typical scenario:
1. upload new photos
2. view them all, all seem ok
3. after some time, power cycle, reboot
4. some photos are corrupt, no thumbnails, can't copy, etc (I get permission
denied type messages from Windows).

Any help most appreciated.

Sorry about the dup posts, I didn't register with MS the first time and
didn't think the 1st post would go through.

Solved my own problem with a little googling. It seems that my
administrator account did not have permission to open many of the photos in
the Shared Docs directory. Unfortunately XP Home does not allow even the
administrator to change ownership/permissions via the GUI. I had to reboot
into safe mode to gain access to the file security property tab, then I could
change ownership and set permissions.

While searching for a solution I found out about subinacl.exe, which is a
command line program for changing ownership/permissions. I haven't used it
yet, but this is the easier way to change permissions in bulk (instead of
right clicking on every file needing to be changed).
