Can't Open Slide Shows

L

Larry

I received a couple of PowerPoint slide shows as email attachments. When I
try to open them, I get a window with a red x that says"This file does not
have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an
association in the folder options in control panel. [OK]" Well, I went to
folder options, and it showed PowerPoint viewer associated with .pps files.
I tried again to open. Same error message. I went back to folder options,
removed the association and then I reapplied the association. Still get the
error message. Will PowerPoint viewer open slide shows? If so, what am I
missing? Thanks.

Well, I may be making some progress. I still can't open them, but now I at
least get the PowerPoint Splash Screen followed by a series of error message
windows, so it feels like I'm getting closer. The first one says "PowerPoint
Viewer cannot find the file"Documents"". The second one says "PowerPoint
Viewer cannot find the file "and"". The next one says "PowerPoint Viewer
cannot find the file "Local"". These keep going for the full
path....."Temporary", "Internet", and finally.."PowerPoint Viewer cannot
find the file "extrafokti.pps"". Nothing opens after clicking OK on all
those. Why can't it find the path folders? Thanks.

Ah. Good description! The file association is semi-bunged. It's correct, but
lacks a few critical quote marks.

Have you tried running Detect and Repair from within PowerPoint? Also, have
you tried saving the files to disk and then opening them? The problem may be
your email, not PowerPoint.

OK, problem's fixed. Sonia Coleman posted an answer to someone else having
the same problem. It worked for me. So if you read this Sonia, I don't know
why you ignored me, but thanks for solving my problem with pvregfix. What
seems really funny is that before I posted, I read back through nearly a
thousand posts looking to see if the answer had already been posted. I
didn't see it anywhere, then two of us in two days posted the identical
problem. And obviously, the problem was well enough known to have a patch
available. Thanks to all.

I didn't ignore you. I just didn't have time to read every post that had
received replies. Sometimes time is short and the pay here is minimum wage.

Maybe not the government defined minimum wage, but certainly the mathematical
minimum wage, same as you. Zip!

Yes, we do get lots of non-monetary tips.
