Can't open pictures, file may be damaged or truncated

I can't open my pictures. When I try to open them in Kodak Easy Share it
says the files exist but may be damaged. When I try to open them in Photo
Shop it says they may be truncated. The files were accessible until about 3
weeks ago and only certain pictures were affected. They are all in jpeg
format. A virus scan provided no help.

1. Check that the file extension is .jpg and not jpe. If jpe, rename the
file and use .jpg
2. Check the file size, if zero, the file cannot be recovered.
3. If extension is .jpg and the size is not zero, copy the file to another
folder. If copying does not proceed, there is no way of recovering. If it
does proceed but the file size is zero, there is no way of recovering. If
the file copies properly, try opening the copy.
4. Try another viewer. A very good and free viewer is: www.irfanview.com
Long shot but it may work.
5. If the above fail try with some software from here:
http://www.x-ways.net/winhex/allfeatures.html
You can use the trial version to try to recover files by type, but this is
good mainly to recover lost files (and I think the trial version is good for
file size up to 200 KB).
Long shot but it may work.

If it helps I have seen some memory card recovery stuff over the last
few months.

Try Zonealarms - they were touting a chip disk recovery program that
seems to work if the memory card has not been re-writ to.

It is a fear I also share (chip card failing on insert or transfer)
