Can't open pics

Can't open most of the pics I receive via email or the net.
Tried various progs. to open to now avail.
What happened?

Go to My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File types, and check if
the file extensions for the pics (.jpg, .bmp, .gif etc.) are associated
with an appropriate program.

Irfanview ( http://www.irfanview.com/ ) is a good, free picture-viewing
program, that can handle most image file types, and has plugins for even
more.
