Can't open NTFS drive

I installed an NTFS drive to my PC running windows XP.
The NTFS drive is from my laptop and I just want to copy
the files so that I can format it. The problem is that
when I cannot open/ browse the drive. I checked the disk
management and it says that the drive is healthy. How
can I open this drive?
