Can't Open Microsoft Update Page

Pat

I'm using an Acer Aspire mini-notebook with Windows XP, SP3 installed.
However, when I try to open the Windows Update website, all I get is a blank
page. When I shut the computer down there is always an update to install
but I can't see the update history so I don't know what is being installed.
It happens every time I shut down with no installation window so I can see
the progress. What is going on with this?

Pat,

Maybe your Internet Security is set too high not allowing ActiveX content

START | PROGRAMS | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL | INTERNET OPTIONS
or
START | CONTROL PANEL | INTERNET OPTIONS

Click the SECURITY tab & go throung Internet, Intranet, Trusted & Restricted
in turn & set to DEFAULT level

Click APPLY | OK

Close & re-open IE

TOOLS menu | WINDOWS UPDATES

Has it solved your issue?

What type of firewall are you using? Is that allowing SIGNED (not UNSIGNED)
ActiveX's?

On another post it states you could use to fix the problem:

START | RUN | Type 'sfc /scannow

Please report back

That works.  The page is displayed.

Thanks.

What worked? Which offered solution?

FYI - Some MS pages do not work with Firefox (like MS Updates), so you
have to use IE once in a while.

I spoke too soon. The page displays but doesn't update and I can't view the
update history. It is just locked up.
