Can't open a second page or link without a Fault causing FP to clo

<sigh> The directory was apparently a mixed bag of read only and not read only files/folders. I cleared the tab for all files, folders and subfolders, checked; then went back to the beginning & cleared all *vt's, cache, temp, etc. No luck. As soon as I added the nav bar it crashed out again same way.

| Yes. I first added all of my top level pages to the navigation view, then added the nav bar. Then after I'd had my next crash and
was trying to pin down where this was happening, went through these steps:
|
| 1. cleared everything as per your previous instructions (except for reinstalling IE again)
| 2. added top, left and bottom borders...and tested opening a few pages.
| 3. added a graphic banner into the top border and tested.
| 4. added a left side nav bar and tested...this is where the fault reappeared.
| 5. after reopening FP, I removed the nav bar and retested...and could open multiple pages again.
|
| Unless there's some other coincidental thing going on, somewhere/somehow this seems to be related to the navigation. (I did
recalculate hyperlinks several times during this process.) Is it possible that in moving all of the files/folders from the original
machine's HDD to this one, something is deep in the background related to where everything lives?
|
| (All of my program data (for all programs) live in one main directory off the root. When I copied the data over, the entire
directory was copied. No names were changed in the process...all are legal with respect to no-spaces and punctuation. )
|
| Thx,

One more clue. I installed FP on yet another computer. This differs from the other two in that it has Office 2000 on it instead of Office 2002. Otherwise it is also a WinXP machine with all of the latest patches. The only other difference is that it did not have a copy of Mozilla Firefox installed (the other two did, although I uninstalled it from one of those and uninstalled and reinstalled FP just in case something there might have caused this...but no change).

Bottom line, I shared the web directory and connected to it from this third machine and it works fine. No problems opening up the existing site. So it's apparently not a problem with the pages/folders themselves, but something to do with FP and its interaction with the OS or other programs (OfficeXPsp3? or Firefox...these are the only two new programs/patches that are on the two machines that throw the fault, that are not on the machine that works or the old original workstation.)

Are there any reported conflicts between FP and OfficeXpsp3 or Firefox?????

One more clue. I installed FP on yet another computer. This differs from the other two in that it
has Office 2000 on it instead of Office 2002. Otherwise it is also a WinXP machine with all of the
latest patches. The only other difference is that it did not have a copy of Mozilla Firefox
installed (the other two did, although I uninstalled it from one of those and uninstalled and
reinstalled FP just in case something there might have caused this...but no change).
Bottom line, I shared the web directory and connected to it from this third machine and it works
fine. No problems opening up the existing site. So it's apparently not a problem with the
pages/folders themselves, but something to do with FP and its interaction with the OS or other
programs (OfficeXPsp3? or Firefox...these are the only two new programs/patches that are on the two
machines that throw the fault, that are not on the machine that works or the old original
workstation.)
Are there any reported conflicts between FP and OfficeXpsp3 or Firefox?????

cleared the tab for all files, folders and subfolders, checked; then went back to the beginning &
cleared all *vt's, cache, temp, etc. No luck. As soon as I added the nav bar it crashed out again
same way.

|
|
|
No names were changed in the process...all are legal with respect to no-spaces and punctuation. )
|
| Thx,

recalculate hyperlinks several times during this process.) Is it possible that in moving all of the files/folders from the original

Ok, did you install FP2002 after or before installing the Office XP Apps and if after install Office
XP, have you re-applied the Office XP Updates?

One more clue. I installed FP on yet another computer. This differs from the other two in that
it
has Office 2000 on it instead of Office 2002.
Bottom line, I shared the web directory and connected to it from this third machine and it
works

:

<sigh> The directory was apparently a mixed bag of read only and not read only
files/folders. I
cleared the tab for all files, folders and subfolders, checked; then went back to the beginning &
cleared all *vt's, cache, temp, etc. No luck. As soon as I added the nav bar it crashed out again
same way.

:

Using Windows Explorer Make sure the folders / files you "moved" do not have any read only
attributes still set (if moved from a CD)

| Yes. I first added all of my top level pages to the navigation view, then added the nav
bar.
|
| 5. after reopening FP, I removed the nav bar and retested...and could open multiple
pages
again.
|
| Unless there's some other coincidental thing going on, somewhere/somehow this seems to
be
related to the navigation. (I did
recalculate hyperlinks several times during this process.) Is it possible that in moving
all
of the files/folders from the original
machine's HDD to this one, something is deep in the background related to where everything lives?

At this point, the current installed version of FP is definitely after the XP updates. Is it possible to reapply XP updates that have already been installed? -sd

-sd

:

<sigh> The directory was apparently a mixed bag of read only and not read only files/folders. I
cleared the tab for all files, folders and subfolders, checked; then went back to the beginning &
cleared all *vt's, cache, temp, etc. No luck. As soon as I added the nav bar it crashed out again
same way.

:

Using Windows Explorer Make sure the folders / files you "moved" do not have any read only
attributes still set (if moved from a CD)

|
| 5. after reopening FP, I removed the nav bar and retested...and could open multiple pages
again.
|
| Unless there's some other coincidental thing going on, somewhere/somehow this seems to be
related to the navigation. (I did
recalculate hyperlinks several times during this process.) Is it possible that in moving all
of the files/folders from the original
machine's HDD to this one, something is deep in the background related to where everything
lives?
|
| (All of my program data (for all programs) live in one main directory off the root. When I
copied the data over, the entire
directory was copied. No names were changed in the process...all are legal with respect to
no-spaces and punctuation. )
|
| Thx,

Anytime you install a Office update and then add another Office app for the same version, you have
to re-apply all updates.

FP 2002

Which version of FP you working with?

One more clue. I installed FP on yet another computer. This differs from the other two in
that
it
has Office 2000 on it instead of Office 2002. Otherwise it is also a WinXP machine with all
of
the
latest patches.

So it's apparently not a problem with the
pages/folders themselves, but something to do with FP and its interaction with the OS or other
programs (OfficeXPsp3? or Firefox...these are the only two new programs/patches that are on
the
two
machines that throw the fault, that are not on the machine that works or the old original
workstation.)

Are there any reported conflicts between FP and OfficeXpsp3 or Firefox?????

<sigh> The directory was apparently a mixed bag of read only and not read only files/folders. I
cleared the tab for all files, folders and subfolders, checked; then went back to the
beginning
&
cleared all *vt's, cache, temp, etc. No luck. As soon as I added the nav bar it crashed out again
same way.

Using Windows Explorer Make sure the folders / files you "moved" do not have any read only
attributes still set (if moved from a CD)

| Yes. I first added all of my top level pages to the navigation view, then added the
nav
bar.
|
| 5. after reopening FP, I removed the nav bar and retested...and could open multiple pages
again.
|
| Unless there's some other coincidental thing going on, somewhere/somehow this seems
to
be
related to the navigation. (I did
recalculate hyperlinks several times during this process.) Is it possible that in
moving
all
of the files/folders from the original
machine's HDD to this one, something is deep in the background related to where everything
lives?
|
| (All of my program data (for all programs) live in one main directory off the root.
When
I
copied the data over, the entire
directory was copied. No names were changed in the process...all are legal with respect to
no-spaces and punctuation. )
|
| Thx,
