I'm running WinXP SP2. It's been installed only 72 hours and already
something is going wacky

All of a sudden I can't move or right-click my start menu items.
I often right-click to sort the menu items especially after installing a
couple apps. Now when I right-click on the Start menu items it just flashes.

I can't grab and manually move items either.

I could do both yesterday.

anyone have any ideas?

and in case anyone know how to do this. I was able to figure out how to turn
off hiding menu items in XP.....So now XP menus and *most* apps don't hide
lesser used menu items. Office 2003 still hides menus.....I know it's the
wrong group but anyone know how to turn this off??

and lastly, in "Internet Options" under the Programs tab you can specify
default apps for things like HTML editing, E-mail, etc.
Can I custom set apps that aren't in the drop downs?
For example, I use a generic text editor (UltraEdit) for HTML editing but
it's not in the list and I use a Trillian to do AIM/MSN/Yahoo chat but it's
not in the list.

thanks
mike

Check if 'Enable dragging and dropping' is checked.

How to do that:
Right click Task Bar and select Properties. Select Start Menu tab. Click
Customize button. Select Advanced tab. In the list box there is 'Enable
dragging and dropping' check box. It should be checked.

doh! I don't have that entry?!?!??!

Any ideas what registry key this was/is?

I have a feeling this had something to do with TuneUp Utilities 2004.

Hi Mike,

1.
If you are using Spysweeper, disable it and try again. If not:

Right click the Start button, select Properties, Customize. Scroll through
the options on the Advanced tab and put the check mark back in Enable
dragging and dropping.

If your right clicking abilities are more complexed, run this edit.

Enable or Disable the Right Click Context Menu (Line 56)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

2. Turn off personalized menus.

3a. Change and/or Add an HTML Editor (Line 132)

3b, in part: Add Trillian to the Tools Menu and Toolbar in IE (Line 117)
