Diagnostic test passed -- sends and receives ping, but
that's it.

Says no internet connection is available.

Replaced NIC card, checked cable into another computer
(it works on the other computer). Still no connection
via DSL.

Suggestions? (Note: I just got rid of some nasty hijack
programs, wupdater.exe, etc., and I also re-installed XP).

Thanks!

Did you do a complete clean install? Or did you leave the old files on the
drive and install over it. If the latter, you may still be infected.
If you can ping and be pinged, however, you may simply be missing some
protocols, although they usually install themselves if you are connected
when you do the install.
See what happens if you remove the network card, using the control panel,
not physically removing it, and then reboot and let XP reinstall the
hardware.

Thanks, Eddie. I'll give it a shot with the re-re-
install of the network card via the control panel. The
previous sound card did show a failure with the ping
test.

You're also right in that I didn't do the complete
install but rather the overwrite. Still some files I
want to make sure I can access (transfer to the new
computer).

I'll post a reply as to if your solutions helped.
