can't log on

every time i go to log into ms messenger it comes back that it failed because
the service is temporarily unavailable. when i check the net status with the
help key it says that all systems are stable and running. what is my problem
here. i have been trying for two days now. please help

Start>Run>type SERVICES.MSC>click OK
Scroll down to Messenger and see if the service was started.
If not you can set it to manual or automatic.
