Windows Messanger - Need Help

When I try to log on it says....

"Signing into .NET messenger service failed becuase the service is
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Click the help button to
check the current .NET service status "

I did this and it says All systems are stable and running. Then clicked a
link saying "Required messanger update" underneath that message on this web
page and it brought me to a page stating this....

"Windows Messenger
If you are using Windows XP, you need to run Windows Messenger version
4.7.2000 or later.
To check your version of Windows Messenger click Help, and then click About
in the main window.
If you are running a version older than 4.7.2000, click here to upgrade."

I ma runningWindows Messenger Version 4.7 (4.7.3001)

It has been doing this for a week, and also my Windows Defender keeps saying
to check for updates but when I do there is none.

Is this related ??

Also when I go to the MSN home page it says....Cericate has expired or
something...I try to reinstall but it doesn't take....

whats wrong...Microsoft is killing me

Hi Bob,

Is your clock and Time Zone also the Date set properly?

What is the version of Windows Defender? Please go to Help, about, and post
the top most of the three version numbers there.

Is this a home machine, or one used in an office?

Are you on a large, managed network, where access to AutoUpdate is
restricted? Is there a WSUS server on the network?

Are you using Windows Update or Microsoft Update?

Are you fetching updates from a SUS or WSUS server, or from Microsoft?

Engle,
Everything works now...Hmmm...Strangely enought I noticed my dat and clock
were forward about 2 months.
I fixed it to the correct time and date and then everything seems to work
fine now ?!? I don't know why. I noticed some of my scheduled tasks running
and I have Set them all for Saturday night.

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1593.0
Engine Version: 1.1.2503.0
Definition Version: 1.18.2632.5

Home Laptop, docked.

no network. AutoUpdate is set to notify me, becuase I don't want WAN, and
IE 7 installed.
Last time I downloaded WAN , it screwed my system up...I had to redownload
it again via active x to access these boards, maybe thats what messed me up
again ?

WSUS ?

using Microsoft Update

Engel....

I noticed my time and date were messed up and I fixed them last night and
everything seems to be working fine now ???!!!!???? I noticed some scheuled
tasks running and was wondering why becuase i have them set for saturday
nights, and the next run dates on them were screwed up.
Evrytime I went to a microsoft website it said the certificate was invalid
or expired, and Windows messanger could not log on to .NET frame network,
but when I ran a diagonostic via windows/windows website it said everything
was fine. I dunno.

home laptop docked
Windows XP pro SP2

no newtwork although I can plus another computer into my wireless DSL modem.
I have a wireless card for my laptop.

Autoupdate is set to let me know. I don't want to install IE 7 or WAN.
Last time I installed WAN my computer got messed up and I don't remenee how
bad, but I had to uninstall it. I recently had to install it this time to
access this newsgroup boards for help. So I don't think it was WAN this time.

I use Microsoft Update.

WSUS ??? I dont know what that is.

Thnaks in advance Engel.

Ah--OK, now I know which update you mean. I have not had trouble with that
update in its current incarnation. Some time ago, there were some issues
with that one, but it is updated periodically, perhaps quarterly or twice a
year, and I haven't had any recent issues.
