Can't log in via Remote Desktop

Hi all,

I'm not sure why I started having this issue; I've been using Remote
Desktop fine for the past few years. But recently, I can't log in. I can
connect to my computer, and I can see the login screen. However, once I
enter my login, the login screen just stays there for about a minute, and
then the Remote Desktop client just closes, without any error messages. I
can still log into my computer normally just fine, though. I am pretty sure
I did not make any changes to my system or software installations recently.

What the heck is going on? I really need Remote Desktop to work in order to
get my work done. Please help, thanks in advance!

I have seen this happen with systems using Video Cards using the Nvidia
chipset. The nvidia driver loads a service that in effect forces RDP to
logout as soon as you login. You can set the nvidia service to manual or
disabled without loosing driver functionality and this will allow you to
login properly again.

Hi, Kerry, thanks for your reply! You were indeed right. I had to either
disable or set to manual the service called "NVIDIA Display Driver
Service," then restart.

This is very strange, as I'm quite certain I did not, in fact, change
anything on my system, except read and write files. No apps
added/removed, no drivers updated, no Windows updates, etc. My NVIDIA
drivers also date back to 7/15/2004. I've been running SP2 for a long
time.

After doing some Googling afterwards, I found:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=886212

Since my problem is gone now, I'm not going to roll back drivers - the
thought alone of which makes me nervous. I'm not sure what the downsides
are to disabling this service though, if any. Anyway, if anybody can
shed any more light, I'm always curious to know what happened on my
system.
