Just recently, the computer hangs on a cold boot and
provides a warning message that it can't locate the
following file.

c:\windows\system32\aucompat.exe

What is this file used for and can I have a copy sent to
me?

I have upgraded the home version of Windows XP to the
Professional version but this upgrade was done months ago.

Also I am not able to restore my computer to any newer
dates. The system will reboot, then it displays a
message that it can't restore the date selected and to
choose another date.

Doing a quick Google search for this file aucompat.exe suggests it is a
computer virus.
