can't load certain web pages

I am using IE 6 on a WinXP home computer. I connect to
the internet via DSL. I would say that 98+% of the
websites can be viewed without any problems. When I try
to go to some websites (these sites are NOT secure), I
get "the page cannot be displayed" screen.

I have AOL on my computer. If I go onto AOL (via the
DSL connection), then use the browser with AOL, I CAN
view those sites.

Any suggestions? I checked through the knowledge base
and Q818139 seems like it may help, but I don't see how I
go about getting this patch.

Thanks

Daniel

Search for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be
a hidden file. If you find it, rename it to OLDHOSTS

From the article:

"To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support
Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support
calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a
specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question."
