Can't load certain pages/programs

Hi,
When I try to load certain pages or programs, such as
online crosswords from newspaper sites, online games from
Yahoo, or live gamecasts on espn.com, the program doesn't
load. Instead, where the program should be I just see a
blank screen and in the upper left corner is a little box
with a red square, green circle, and blue triangle. I
used to be able to view these type of pages/programs.
Does anyone know what happened and how this can be fixed?

I have windows 98 and IE 6.0.

Just an update. I guess these are Java Applets(?). They
just don't load. When I checked the cache after trying to
load the applet I saw this: ?CodeDownloadErrorLog!name=
{416945A8E-6414-11D4-8FB3-00D0B7730277}.
I have Java enabled.
