can't install XP Pro --sp2.cab problem

I'm trying to install XP Pro on a virgin computer(AMD Athlon 3500+ Winchester
on a new Gigabyte motherboard/brand new Seagate 160GB UltraATA hard disk).
Nothing on the hard drive as yet. After booting up from floppies and
formatting the hard drive, Setup stops and I receive the error message:

The following value in the .SIF file by Setup is corrupted or missing.
Value 0 on the line section SourceDisksFiles] with key "SP2.cab"
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3.

Have tried to set up 7 or 8 times now with the same results. Have remade the
boot floppies twice. Can anyone help?

You should not be booting from a floppy and formatting the hard drive. This
process is handled from the XP cd.

Start over. Put the XP cd in the drive and reboot. When the message "Press
any key to boot from the cd..." appears, press any key.

If the hard drive controller is ATA 133, press the F6 key when the message
appears at the bottom of the screen and insert the driver disk when
prompted. If the controller is ATA 100 you do not need to insert a floppy.
When offered the opportunity, delete all partitions and create a new one
from the unallocated space. Do a full format, NTFS.

The system will reboot at intervals several times during the installation
and the message "Press any key to boot from the cd..." will appear again.
Do not press any key and let the system boot from the hard drive to continue
the installation.

If you want to set partitions before install, then use Partition Magic
8.0 or higher. Make sure that the NTFS version is set to (3.1 WinXP).

Then, once the hard drive is prepared, boot from the Win XP CD. Simply
tell it which partition to install on, and to leave the other
partitions / File System alone.

It works like a charm every time. Do NOT boot from floppy for an
install.

As the other poster noted, make sure you have a floppy ready if your
ATA controller is not supported by the WinXP CD. Watch the prompts.
WinXP WILL prompt for a 3rd party driver, you have to press teh
required key, and have the driver on floppy for it. Usually this is
for SCSI or RAID drivers, but you can use ANY third party disk
controller driver at this point.

Thanks for the message. I've been trying to boot from CD, but my computer
can't do it. The initial screen reads

Verifying DMI pool data ............
MTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

The CD-DVD drive is starting, but then stops.
If you've got any ideas, I'd really appreciate the help.

Check your connectors. Disconnect all external devices except the monitor,
mouse, and keyboard. Clean the cd with a soft cloth. Clean the cd rom
drive. Verify the integrity of the cd on another computer (where did you
obtain the cd?).

Colin and everyone else, thanks for all the advice. The problem is solved.
For some reason the default settings in the BIOS had changed and the computer
wasn't looking for a boot from the CD-DVD. Having set the CD-DVD player as
first boot source everything went smoothly. Glad you told me to boot from the
CD. The guy who sold me the hard drive told me to boot from floppy if I had
any problem with the CD. Anyway, thanks a lot. Everything is A-OK.

Great! You should reset the BIOS to Floppy>CD>Harddrive. Not a biggie, but
the expected order.
