I used Windows update to scan for updates, clicked
install, it seems to installed on my computer by looking
at the progression bar. But the install history showed
that some patches failed to be installed, and these
patches fail to show when I scan again for new updates.
I downloaded individually the patches, and double click
on them to install manually. How do I know which patches
are successfully installed on my computer or not?

Windows Update Is Not Installed
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811269
This issue may occur if you use the AOL Web browser interface to access and
download Windows Updates. The AOL Web browser does not communicate properly
with the Windows Installer software, and this may cause Windows Installer to
stop responding.

On the Windows Update Site - you will see Other Options
Select View installation history
This will show you what has been installed and what has failed.
