I dont know how to use the service pack to install my
usp driver it wont work.

Let's see if we can get them working BEFORE we install anything else, shall
we?

Right click on My Computer and select Properties.

In the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager.

Scroll down to the entry for USB Controllers and click on the + to expand
the tree.

Right click on Each entry for USB Root Hub and select Uninstall. Continue
selecting each entry, finishing with the Controllers until all are
uninstalled.

Then reboot the PC. XP should re-find each and reinstall the correct
drivers.

I am also having this problem; my USB functionality is not working. Not in
my 1.1 with the Dell Dimension I have, nor with the 2.0 4-port PCI card I
have. I had to do a repair of the XP Home software and this is what caused
it. Then I tried to download SP1 and keep getting error messages about the
'cannot verify the integrity of the update.inf file' and am unable to
download SP1.

Dell had told me I would have to complete reinstall XP, starting from
formatting the hard drive - I would like to avoid this if possible. The
only thing not functioning are the USB ports; which I greatly need and miss!

USB Root Hub is NOT showing in my device manager at all; just the controller
files.

ANY SUGGESTIONS, ANYONE?????

Thanks
