Shout these words at your nephew:

NEVER INSTALL BETA SOFTWARE ON A PRODUCTION MACHINE!

Back up your data and do a clean install of Windows.

What you will need on-hand

If you need to have a professional computer repair shop do this for you
- and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - then
insist that your nephew pay for the services.

SP3 for windows xp has not been completed tested now.
Its the release candidate which is like a beta program.
The only option to uninstall SP3 RC is to uninstall it from add/remove
programs or to perform system restore.
But in your case you cant try anyone of these so the only option is to CLEAN
INSTALL WINDOWS AFTER TAKING BACKUP OF THE DATA
refer to this link for clean installation of windows
