can't install SunJava on xp pro

I'm new to XP, but I note it doesn't have the java machine, I can't
use certain things on the web I'm used to, and after downloading
java, it won't install. Sun is not much help. Can anybody tell me
what I have to do?

If Sun will not help just use Microsoft VM.
