I try to install W2K SP3 buy status running long time
until I need to end task job. I view status on task
manager and found status running. Windows service has tree
services that status stopping. I restart service and logon
safe mode and try to change automatic to manual but it
take long time (status running). Could you please to
advice me to fix this problem?

Why SP3 ?

You should be installing SP4 !

Make sure NO programs are running in the background.

Nobody "should" do anything. SP4 has problems - granted, not everyone
experiences difficulties with SP4 but they are certainly there for a lot
of us. I'd stick with SP3 until the next SP comes out and is proven stable.

Based on the shear number of notebooks and desktops I have installed -- SP4 "is" stable.

Hi

And this was said about SP3 and SP2 and <fill in any service pack to
any MS OS here> as well. By listening to all those advises you would
end up not installing any service pack ever ;-)

For most computers, a SP install will go well, but of course, some
computers will get into trouble.

We have installed SP4 on thousands of computers, and only a few
had issues afterwards.

Based on the number of problems *I* have personally experienced with SP4
compared to SP3 I can say with equal certitude the exact opposite.

Regardless, if the OP is having problems installing SP3 what makes you
think installing SP4 is going to go any better?

That's not the point.

The point is installing the "latest" Service pack which rolls-up all previous HotFixes into
one installation.

There is always the "Chaos in Complex Systems" in a computing platform postulate.
