Can't install printer

B

Bert

When I click on "Add a Printer", A window pops up
saying,"Operation could not be completed." The label on
Window says "Printers"
I don't have any printers installed and was about to do
so.
Thanks,
Bert

Hi Bert,

From a previous post:

- go to the windows\inf directory (this directory is hidden, so either use a
command prompt or set the folder options to show hidden files)
- check that printupg.inf is there
- delete printupg.pnf

..pnf are a binary form of the INF, basically a cache, it gets regenerated
the first time someone tries to open the INF programmatically. If this .pnf
was corrupted or truncated for whatever reason, the Add Printer Wizard can't
check on whether the driver is blocked and fails.

Hi Kelly,
I found the file and deleted it. That didn't make a
difference. Then I remembered that I had shut off the
print spooler in the computer component console. I turned
it back on and the printer installer is working again.
Thanks for your help. Your message reminded me about the
services and BINGO there it was.
Thanks for the help,
Bert
