Can't install Office 2007 with Vista 64 bit ultimate

I'm having all kinds of problems installing Offfice 2007 on a Windows Vista
64 bit Ultimate operating system. I've tried copying the CD to a file and
tried downloading the free trial from the web. I've also re-installed the
opertaing system but nothing seems to work. Most of the error messages are
"digital signature does not validate or is not present." While I've got a
ticket open with Microsoft, they haven't been much help so far."

Anybody got some suggestions or having the same problem?

No, but try going to the Office 2007's "setup.exe" right-clicking it and
selecting "Run as administrator" .. see if that works? Microsoft Visual
Studio has some probs with permissions and running the setup (and subsequent
patches etc. ) as administrator is recommended. I just re-did my computer
and I ran all the install programs by right clicking them and selecting "Run
as administrator" when I could.

Have you tried the free OpenOffice.org download? OO will read and write
the proprietary MS and WP formats - handles pretty much like MS Office
with the exception of some macro capabilities.

It's a great program and FREE. Well worth it.

But if the person has spent all that money on office 2007 why would he/she
want to dump it in favour of a free office suite?

Runs perfectly on both of my x64's (XP Pro & Vista Ultimate).
Try this:
Delete all temp files.
Dl and install Windows Install Clean Up.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Run the utility and use it to remove all instances of Office 2007.
Reboot and try to install again.

Might also clean the CD and CD drive, and if this was an .iso burn from a
download it may have been corrupt or not burned correctly to disk. Burning
at a slower speed may help, as may a new download.

If it doesn't work; it doesn't work.

Works here. And on just about every system it goes on .. there must be some
sort of software/hardware problem on that system or something we're
overlooking.

What other 3rd party software is being installed? I found that installing
the old Corel WordPerfect 8, for instance, on Vista screwed things as it did
something with ODBC which screwed with permissions.

Otherwise I guess the guy should do a circle check on the PC. All cords
properly connected, all PCI cards and RAM properly seated, the BIOS properly
configured, no over-clocking or out-of-the-ordinaries and so on ..

If he's really keen he might use MaxBlast4 from Maxtor and zero fill the
harddrive:

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/maxtor_desktop/maxblast-eula

[click on "Accept"

Create a MaxBlast floppy disk boot the computer from it ..

Zero-fill the drive .. quick takes a second .. full can take hours but zeros
the entire drive making it like fresh from the factory.]

The drive can be parititoned using, say a Windows XP disc .. boot to the
Recovery Console use diskpart to partition the use the FORMAT utility do a
full format (not quick) NTFS using the following command at the prompt:

format c: /fs:ntfs

Reboot and install Windows Vista from scratch - clean ..

Install Office 2007 pretty much right away w/o a whole lot of 3rd party
softwares .. Finding the 'setup.exe' on the Office DVD, right-click it and
selecting "Run as administrator". Does it work now?

If all that doesn't work there is either a problem with the Vista/Office
install media and or DVD drive or there is some memory/cpu/disk problem. The
software - Office 2007 - does work. I have it working here right now. So the
idea of just dumping it is dumb. It is not working there because there's
some problem, not because the software is wrong.
