Can't install Network Printer on Win2000

P

Peter

I'm trying to install a network printer on my Win2000 Pro computer, the
printer is on a XP Home, sp2 computer and the drivers for Win2000 are
available as additional drivers so it shouldn't need me to download
them.

I get the message:

The server on which the 'HP Laser Jet 5000 Serial PCL6' printer resides
does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to
install the driver on your local computer, click OK.

I try to install the driver locally using the driver from HP's website
for the laserjet 5000 for PCL6 but it says

The printer driver you selected is either not compatible with your
current version of Windows, or it may not be available. Select a
compatible driver from the list, or contact your administrator for
help.

Any ideas,

Thanks,
Pete

When you shared the printer on the Windows XP computer did you select the
option to also install drivers for older operating systems? You should.

You don't need suplementary drivers for Win2000 Pro, since using shared
WinXP Home printer. The Win2000 should be updated with SP4 y several
newer patches. Disable any alternative firewall in the XPHome, let work
only the SP2 firewall feature, by enable this feature.

For additional drivers it show
Intel Windows 2000 or XP
Intel Windows 95, 98, and ME

for some reason it wouldn't install the Windows NT 4.0 or 2000.

Also firewalls are disabled on both Win2000 Pro and XP Home. And
WIn2000 has SP4 installed.

Any other ideas on what else I can check

Pete
