Can't install Intellitype 5.2

I wanted to replace my old IBM Rapid Access keyboard with a MS Digital
Media Pro. I downloaded teh Intellipoint 5.2 software and tried to
install it. I began but stopped when it stppoed with the message that
conflicting software was already installed and asked it I wanted to
remove it. I clicked OK and it then hung with the meassge that it
cannot remove the conflicting software and stops.

I then tried to uninstall the IBM driver but the uninst.exe said it
couldn't find the log. I reinstalled the IBM software and tried to
uninstall but same problem. So I edit the registry to remove any
tidbit of the IBM software and try to install Intellipoint again with
no luck, same as before.

Any ideas? I now have no keyboard where the function keys work so I
can't even repair XP because I have no F8.

Sorry, it was Intelitype 5.5. It was 2AM. Nevertheless the problem
still exists even though I finally got a repair of XP to install. I
even restored a backup of a few days ago. I have no idea how or when
this got corrupted since the IBM keyboard has been in use for a long
time.

The manufacturer of the keyboard, Micro Innovations, hasn't a clue
what to try next.

If I reinstall the IBM software, then Add/Remove Programs shows a
second instance of the software, and it can be removed. But then you
are back at the beginning.
