cant install antivirus - says I do not have sufficient privleges but logged on as admin

XP Home SP2.

I am logged on with an account with administrator privileges.

yet when I try to install Symantec corporate it tells me
"error 1920 Symantec antivirus failed to start. verify that you have
sufficient privileges to start system services"

but the account I am using IS an admin account!

of course if I log in under safe mode to use the administrator account it
doesn't work there as it says installer service is not there or not working.

how do I get around this, or what could be causing this?

Hi Gary, I had the same problem! I was advised by Symantec to run their
Symantec removal tool, then re install the product. The tool download is on
their website under support. Good luck....Mark.
