Can't install a Brother DCP-115

D

Dave Neve

Hello

Before explaining my problem, let me just warn people to think twice before
buying anything from Brother company.

Emails are not answered, help lines are saturated and head-office tells you
to write in your complaint (when your printer isn't working, they really do
mean write!!!)

Anyway,

The drivers seem to install but the installation of the software hangs up at
exactly 50%.
I have to turn off the power to the computer and when I switch it back on, I
get a 'failure to install drivers message'.

I have several questions and as Brother can't be bothered ...I am trying
here

1 The instructions clearly say to configure the device first and to set
the time.
At the moment of installation, you have to disconnect the printer/scanner
from the power supply and from the computer (both are connected during
installation)

We have now noticed however, that at the very moment we disconnect the
device, it fails to hold the details just entered.
Seems normal as it doesn't have any standard batteries and if there is a
little battery in there somewhere (like with a Bios), it hasn't had time to
charge.
Could this be a problem at the moment of installation???

Also, I have to turn off all applications.

For me, this means firewall and anti virus and so I am not on-line

During the installation, I should be invited to register but I never get
that far.

Could it be that at 50%, that is the moment the software tries to register
and it can't detect the Internet Connection?

Can registration be an integral part of installing a device and if so, how
do I resolve turning off all other applications while being connected.

Please help as this has been going on for a week and their site is useless
(a few FAQ is not going to solve all the installation issues that one can
have with a printer/scanner

Thanks in advance

Dave,

I have suffered the same problem at the hands of Brother and their lack of help centre. Did you ever find a solution to this problem? PLEASE HELP. I have spent a week on this problem.

Cheers,

Ben
