Cannot install Brother DCP-130C

I am using Vista Home Premium on a Dell dimension E521. I have spent over 2
hours on the phone to Brother tech support and they cannot find a reason for
my problems as this printer should be vista compatible.

When I try and install it I get to a screen that asks me to insert the USB
cable. I do this but then it progresses no further. The printer and cable
both work as I tested them on an XP computer but something is stopping it
working with vista. Also in device manager it creates over 20 unknown
devices when I try and install the printer.

Has anyone come across this problem or may know how to help?

the port I'm using is the one that my external hard drive has been plugged in
to and I've not had any problems with it, I've also just plugged a flash
drive in to it and it is recognised. So unfortunately I don't think it's the
port not being active.

The port I'm using is one that I've been running an external hard drive from
and it had no issues with recognising that when it was plugged in.

Unfortunately I don't think it's a port problem, I've also tried it in a
different port and still had no joy.

Have you tried to "completely" remove the old drivers first.

Just deleting the printer from the Printers folder does not completely remove
it.

In the Printers window, File > Run as Administrator > Server Properties, Drivers
tab, highlight the printer and press the Remove button.

Reboot, and perhaps tried the Run as Administrator again to re-install the
Printer?

Thanks for your advice.

The tech support guy at Brother had already given me a package to fully
uninstall the drivers. However after the third try at restoring the system
to a point before I initially tried to install it, leaving it switched off
for a while and altering usb ports yet again it has now recognised it and
installed.
