Brother DCP-1000 Problem

J

I was given a Brother DCP-1000 that I am having trouble with.
Seems most printed pages have black what I'll call smudges on them.
Something like would be caused by too much contrast or darkness.
I can't adjust to improve it, although I have tried.
I bought a new toner cartridge, hoping that would help - it didn't.
Now I'm wondering if the drum could be the problem. I hoped not,
since drums are so expensive.

Before I spend that amount of money, any opinions on whether a new
drum would help? Or maybe something else? Toss it?

Thanks

I don't know if you received a manual with the printer or not.

If not you can download a free pdf version from Brother at:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.co...n&prod=dcp1000_us&type2=5&flang=English&dlid=

In there are a number of suggestions regarding print quality, including
adjustments to contrast and darkness. They also make suggestions
regarding paper/media types, for best results, some will cause ghosting
and other printer defects.
