Can't Import PST in O2k3

M

microsoft

I have outlook 2003 running on one computer, I exported the files to a
outlook.PST file from my personal folders. I have a new machine with
Outlook2003. I went to the top of my personal folders and went to file
import the outlook.pst file and it says the file c:\temp\outlook.pst is not
a personal folders file. I checked and the file doesn't have any read only
attributes. Any suggestions?

Provide the details on how you created this file. From your description, it
sounds like you exported to an already existing PST file. I hope not.

Can you use File->Open instead?

I went to the top of my personal folders, and created a new file by
selecting file import/export Personal Folder File, then went to my temp
directory and created a new file - outlook.pst - replace is selected, there
is no password setting.

Should work, then. Have you tried repairing the File using the Inbox Repair
Tool?

Now you can see why we recommend against exporting. There is no need for it
mad data can get corrupted. If you want to reuse data, just copy or open the
original PST file in another installation.

Search your drive for scanpst.exe and run it on your file. If it shows
errors, select to fix the errors and rerun the tool until it reports no more
errors.
